<p><h3>Overview</h3><p>Sedgman is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel North America West to join its Mining & Minerals business and support our North American offices along with our Senior Legal Counsel N.A. East. This role will be based in Vancouver, BC, and will report to the General Counsel in Brisbane, Australia.</p><p>The ideal incumbent will have experience in engineering and the construction industry, preferably in the mining sector, and a strong understanding of feasibility studies, detailed design and project delivery. This role requires providing accurate, commercial, and timely legal advice to ensure legal and contractual risks are appropriately managed and to support development, implementation, and monitoring of risk management strategies in accordance with our commercial limits.</p><p>This includes assisting with day-to-day management of the legal function and compliance with reporting requirements and corporate governance policies.</p><p>With offices globally, Sedgman offers opportunities for professional growth and development. West offices and region</li><li>Provide high quality and practical advice on engineering and construction law matters to assist the business in critical decision making</li><li>Provide high quality advice and guidance on day-to-day legal matters in a timely way</li><li>Review head contract conditions and subcontract qualifications and advise on issues to ensure corporate compliance</li><li>Negotiate and draft contract amendments and close out of head contracts and subcontracts</li><li>Sign-off on contract compliance in line with Sedgman risk management policy prior to execution</li><li>Roll out Sedgman training on contract fundamentals</li><li>Assist with development of responses to issues arising under contracts during construction and operations, with focus on early dispute resolution</li><li>Conform subcontract suite with individual head contracts and issue to project procurement team</li><li>Assist General Counsel and Company Secretary with ad hoc legal and governance requirements</li><li>Assist in mentoring legal counsel and law clerks</li></ul><h3>Qualifications</h3><ul><li>Bachelor of Law degree and be a member of a Bar for at least 8 years</li><li>Minimum of 4 years’ experience working for an Engineering / Consulting / EPC/M firm in engineering and/or construction law</li><li>Experience in construction, commercial and contract law, including negotiating and drafting of EPCM and/or EPC contracts</li><li>Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to simplify complex legal concepts for senior management and stakeholders</li><li>Mining industry knowledge is a plus, with experience in construction/engineering, partnerships and major projects</li><li>Negotiation skills and the ability to analyze situations to lead conflict resolution</li><li>Strong organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail</li><li>Ability to work in a dynamic environment and manage competing priorities</li><li>Excellent presentation skills; may be required to present to the broader legal team and senior management</li><li>High degree of autonomy and excellent time management; ability to work with minimal supervision</li><li>Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 suite</li><li>Relationship building with internal and external stakeholders</li><li>Excellent English communication and interpersonal skills</li><li>Must be eligible to work in Canada without sponsorship</li></ul><h3>What’s in it for you?</h3><ul><li>Competitive compensation package (discretionary bonus, health benefits, RRSP matching)</li><li>A driven team and a dynamic, enthusiastic environment</li><li>Global opportunities with a diverse and challenging pipeline of work (international relocation opportunities)</li><li>Potential assignment opportunities (at project sites or in other design office locations)</li><li>Working for a business that values and recognizes your efforts</li><li>Support for volunteerism and community involvement</li></ul><p>Salary Range: $165,000 to $250,000</p><p>Sedgman Canada Limited is part of the CIMIC Group’s mineral processing company and is a leading provider of mineral processing and related infrastructure solutions to the global resources industry.</p><p>Our Mission is to generate sustainable returns for our shareholders by delivering projects for our clients while providing safe, rewarding and fulfilling careers for our people.
