<p><h3>Overview</h3><p><b>JOB SUMMARY :</b> The Principal Engineer is accountable to research, develop and implement tasks, methodologies, and practices for the corporation. As a member of SaskPower’s management team, this position is responsible for assisting with and / or preparing technical studies, business cases, designs, specifications, tender evaluations, and equipment and construction drawings. This position will advise on project plans, costs, and schedules and provide contract management and project coordination services, ensuring alignment with departmental and corporate strategic goals and objectives.</p><h3>Key Accountabilities</h3><ul><li>Develop and lead the technical oversight process for a new nuclear build</li><li>Provide technical assistance for construction, commissioning, and operations</li><li>Perform technical and economic analysis of alternative solutions for senior management on provincial nuclear strategies, project business cases, and make recommendations on courses of action</li><li>Provide direction for construction and commissioning projects and initiatives</li><li>Develop criteria, guidelines, standards, and new practices based upon codes, technologies, and methodologies</li><li>Provide direction to consultants and internal engineering staff</li><li>Prepare project plans, monitor costs and schedule, and initiate corrective action as appropriate</li><li>Other related duties as assigned</li></ul><h3>Knowledge / Skills / Abilities</h3><ul><li>Bachelor’s degree in engineeringin nuclear, mechanical, electrical, civil, engineering physics, or chemical.</li><li>Eligible for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers of Saskatchewan (APEGS)</li><li>Professional Engineering Designation P.Eng.</li><li>A minimum of ten (10) years relevant experience that includes a combination of the following engineering tasks : planning facilities; providing design, safety analysis, configuration management, operational support, commissioning, contract management and coordination of exceedingly complex projects</li><li>Five (5) to ten (10) years relevant experience that includes a leadership role pertaining to design and safety analysis of a nuclear reactor</li><li>Demonstrated competency in engineering / industry standards, as well as internal processes and procedures</li><li>Demonstration of strong relationships with working groups, committees and technical leaders across the organization, the province, and the country</li><li>Ability to provide competent leadership, including the formal management of both engineers and senior engineers, as well as other technical staff</li><li>Subject matter expert providing highly technical guidance on difficult or unprecedented issues</li><li>Development of technical direction and strategy required to support delivery of the company’s strategic business objectives</li><li>Results oriented thinker, with the ability to manage and provide advice regarding complex and confidential issues with sensitivity and professionalism</li><li>Ability to work and manage in a changing environment</li><li>Strong analytical and problem-solving skills</li><li>Excellent facilitation, project management and decision-making skills</li><li>Ability to foster a culture focused on safety, innovation, and teamwork</li><li>Demonstrated skill in SaskPower's Competencies</li><li>Must have a continuing record of professional development</li></ul><p>A suitable combination of relevant education and experience may also be considered</p></p>
