Our Organization
The National Diabetes Trust is Canada’s largest charitable clothing and small household good collection service. With more than 5,000 donations bins and an active home pick-up service in communities across Canada (excluding Quebec), we collect unwanted gently used clothing and household items, using them to raise much-needed funds for Diabetes Canada.



Each year, the program diverts more than 100 million pounds of clothing and household items from landfill sites across Canada.

Hours of Work

This role will work up to 20-24 hours per week, including weekends; generally, over three to four days.

A consistent schedule will be developed in collaboration with operational needs.



About the Operations Supervisor Role
Reporting to the Nova Scotia Operations Manager, the Operations Supervisor assists in day-to-day operations by managing a team of dedicated Drivers and ensuring the efficient collection of donated good through Declutter , the door-to-door, and donation box collection of used clothing and household items.

Highlights of the role include:
• Able to drive truck when needed
• Supervise, coach, motivate, and performance manage drivers, in consultation with the Operations Manager and Human Resource Departments, always maintaining confidentiality
• Recruit and train drivers as directed by the Operations Manager
• Ensure required merchandise is delivered to all Value Village Stores as per the delivery schedule. Assist the Operations Manager to plan and implement innovative, effective methods to meet all contractual obligations
• Maintain attendance records and coordinate staffing schedules and follow up with Operations Manager
• Ensure payroll records are accurate and sent to the National Payroll Department on a timely basis
• Respond and resolve customer concerns, prepare invoices, internal transfers, reconcile billing summaries, accurately track inventory levels, monitor staff productivity, monitor, and update schedules for the servicing of drop boxes and work assignments, oversee the database, accurate completion of all statistical reports, oversee labor budget
• Coordination of drivers and trucks: monitor GPS, complete route audits, assist with route and/or truck problems, advise drivers of special pickups and cancellations, coordinate fleet maintenance and act as a liaison between the drivers, Value Village and Ryder personnel
• Ensure effective transition between shifts and supervise daily workflow.
• Collaborate with Operations Manager and Business Operations staff to develop a plan to achieve local goals and assists in the development of area-marketing strategies for Business Operations
• Support the Operations Manager to ensure the promotion of the Business Operations through the placement of drop boxes, attended stations, donation depots, media, targeted marketing initiative, special events, etc.
• Additional duties as required ensuring the effective function of Operations



About You
The selected candidate for this Operations Supervisor role will meet the following minimum requirements:


• University Degree or College Diploma in Business or equivalent relevant experience
• 2+ years of experience in a multi-disciplinary environment with a scheduling component
• Must be able to drive a truck, as shown providing a valid license and a clean driver’s abstract
• Ability to provide direction, motivation, training, and support to staff members
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
• Excellent organizational skills with great attention to detail
• Superior customer service skills
• Excellent communication skills including verbal, written and telephone
• Strong computer skills with proficiency with MS Word and Excel
• Knowledge of office equipment such as printers, photocopiers, fax machines, multi-line telephone systems etc.
• Able to work in a busy, multi tasked environment
• Knowledge of diabetes an asset
• Second language an asset
• Available to work weekends; schedule can vary between 7am-7pm
