The Opportunity:
We are seeking a Mechanical or Electrical Project Manager to join our clients engineering team in Kingston, ON. In this role, you will oversee a variety of projects from tenant fit-ups to high-rise residential buildings, leading our in-house project teams and serving as the liaison with clients, consultants, and construction teams. This is an opportunity to work in a fast-paced and dynamic office environment with a wide variety of clients and projects ranging from $50,000 to $50,000,000 in construction value.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Prepare proposals for new projects, identifying scope, schedule, and budget with clients and negotiating associated fees.
- Assemble project teams and manage their efforts to deliver projects on time, within budget, and meeting client expectations.
- Monitor project progress through regular communication with the team, reviewing hours/dollars spent, and keeping clients and Principal-In-Charge updated.
- Attend client meetings, document discussions, and report back to the team.
- Review drawings to ensure they meet client expectations and quality control measures.
- Identify extra scope and negotiate additional fees where applicable.
- Manage sub-consultants to ensure work is completed to company standards and fees are aligned with the proposal.
- Coordinate contract administration activities with the design team and/or field technician.
- Work with the accounting team to prepare monthly invoicing and aid in project collections.
- Establish effective relationships with all parties involved in the project.
- Design mechanical or electrical projects of various complexities and sizes.
- Direct junior staff on design strategies/concepts.
- Prepare project documentation, including drawings and specifications.
- Conduct field reviews and oversee construction administration.
What You’ll Need to Be Successful:
- Solid knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
- Experience in project management in the design or construction fields.
- Experience with construction contract law and standard contract documents.
- Experience with pricing projects and managing fees for additional services.
- Excellent communication skills and experience working directly with clients.
- Ability to multi-task and be organized, especially under the stress of multiple project deadlines.
- A result-oriented problem solver who enjoys finding the right solution for each project.
- 8+ years of experience in building design or construction industry.
- University degree or College diploma in a related field including electrical, mechanical, architectural or building science.
