They are currently looking for a Senior Architectural Designer to join their team. This firm specializes in commercial, residential, office, retail, hospitality, health & science, public, heritage & master planning projects and has won many awards over the 50 years they have been in business. THE ROLE Our client is looking for an intermediate or senior architectural technologist to join their collaborative team. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, capable of supporting senior staff on multiple projects, and has the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. You are highly organized, reliable, technically minded, and self-motivated. You are well versed in a wide variety of construction methods and have strong working drawings experience. We are looking for a great fit in both personality and technical skills and value positive attitudes, team focus and a willingness to learn. MUST HAVES • 5 years’ experience in British Columbia creating construction drawings for commercial, mixed-use residential and institutional projects. • Completion of a certified Building Technology or Architectural program or equivalent experience. •The willingness to work with both AutoCAD & Revit RESPONSIBILITIES • Interpret and develop design concepts from design development through to contract documents • Assist in preparation of the site plan approval drawings • Prepare specification, construction documents and details for building permit, tender and construction. • Contract administration: Coordinate and review shop drawings and submittals, prepare site instructions, respond to RFI’s, administer change orders and perform field reviews • Often gives technical or project related guidance and direction to other staff. May act as a lead on larger projects. • Prepare and monitor project work plans, budgets and design schedules • Research and apply appropriate use of materials • Manage multiple assignments • Liaise with clients, consultants and City officials. • Comply with zoning by-laws, development/building permit and building code requirements. SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE • High level of proficiency in AutoCAD. Sketch Up, Rhino, and Photoshop • InDesign & Revit considered an asset (firm uses Revit widely, but needs someone who uses AutoCAD as well) • Ability to coordinate complex projects with a range of consultants and extract and relay relevant information • Working knowledge of local building codes (BCBC / VBBL Parts 3 and 10) and bylaws and a demonstrated understanding of building technology, building envelope and materials • Experience in a variety of project types and a variety of construction systems such as concrete and steel • Experience and knowledge pertaining to all aspects of Design Development, Building Permit submissions, Tender process and preparation of contract drawings and documents • Understanding of sustainable design, LEED, BC Energy Step Code, ASHRAE 90.1, NECB and other similar programs, codes and standards. • Superior time management skills – must be able to work closely with lead designers and be adaptable to the constant changes implemented by clients while working on several projects simultaneously • Exceptional oral and written communication skills • An analytical mind with strong problem-solving ability • Strong planning and organization skills • The ability to work well on your own initiative and as part of a team • High levels of creativity, imagination and vision • The ability to work well under pressure WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU Excellent company with a strong collaborative team and great reputation in the industry Competitive compensation and benefits plan Flexible working environment and company perks Amazing company culture with regular team building events and get togethers Regular staff recognition, employee awards and annual bonus based on company & individual performance Opportunity for professional growth and development with opportunity to lead and implement new strategies Incredible opportunity to work directly with the Senior Leadership team to develop the company further Please apply directly if you feel like you are the right candidate for this role Only candidates selected for interviews will be contacted.
