About the Organization

The Nunavut Housing Corporation (NHC) is an agency of the Government of Nunavut that serves the housing needs of one of the fastest-growing and youngest populations in Canada. NHC’s mandate is to create, coordinate, and administer housing programs in order to provide fair access to a range of affordable housing options to families and individuals in Nunavut.

NHC has recently launched The Nunavut 3000 Strategy, () which is a collaboration between the government and its partners to deliver 3,000 new units across the housing continuum by 2030.



About the Opportunity

Currently, we have an exciting opportunity for a full-time District Director to join our team in Arviat, Nunavut.


Reporting to the VP Operations of the Nunavut Housing Corporation, you will be responsible for delivering, implementing, and financially managing NHC’s corporate policies, programs, and projects in the Kivalliq district. You will oversee a District Office workforce and facilitate the work of seven (7) Local Housing Organizations (LHOs) located across the Kivalliq region.

More specifically, your responsibilities in this role will include:


Collaborating through partnerships and consultation with community representatives and Local Housing Organizations in the delivery of social housing
Consulting and strengthening communications with community partners and developing a Capital Plan that reflects the needs of the individual housing organizations in the district
Overseeing the delivery of support services for public and staff housing assets
Encouraging LHO development through the delivery of housing programs by working with various community groups, local contractors, and businesses, and coordinating training and related activities
Maintaining positive working relationships and working closely with LHO’s, Hamlets, Regional council, the public, cultural associations, and GN Departments
About You

To qualify, you should possess a bachelor’s degree in public or business administration, management, or a related field, with a minimum of five (5) years of related experience in property management, housing program management, technical services, or mortgage and loans administration, including at least four (4) years supervising staff.


Experience at a senior level in supervision, general administration, and budgeting and cost management is desirable.

Additional qualifications may also include:


Experience working as part of a project team involved in building & design, operations & maintenance, or housing project delivery
Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut, and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are assets
Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages is an asset

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong communication, problem-solving, and time-management skills.

The ability to coordinate many activities simultaneously and to track the progress of all of the activities is crucial.



Finally, you must be self-motivated, have the ability to work effectively as part of a team and individually, and be willing to relocate.
