PURPOSE AND SCOPE</p><p><br><br></p><p>Under the direction of the Kinoomaagewin Project Manager and the Director of Niigaaniin Services, the Kinoomaagewin, the Cook position has a focus of food preservation and meal preparation and plays a vital role in supporting food sustainability and nutrition.</p><p><br /></p><p>This position is responsible for preparing, preserving, and packaging meals using locally harvested produce, with a strong emphasis on food safety, regulatory compliance, and efficient inventory management.</p><p><br /></p><p>The role fosters collaboration with garden and greenhouse teams to ensure optimal use of seasonal crops, reduce waste, and provide nutritious, culturally relevant meals to the community. Through strategic planning and adherence to health standards, the Cook contributes to the programs goals of food security, food sovereignty, education, and community wellness.</p><p><br /></p><p>B. QUALIFICATIONS</p><p></p><p>Requirements:</p><ul><li>It is preferred for the applicant to be a registered band member of the First Nations serviced by Niigaaniin Services, including Batchewana First Nation, Garden River First Nation, Thessalon First Nation, Mississauga First Nation, Serpent River First Nation, Sagamok Anishnawbek, Atikameksheng Anishnawbek, and Wahnapitae First</li><li>High School diploma or General Educational Development program (GED) or comparative lived experience,</li><li>Culinary Diploma considered an asset,</li><li>Food Handlers Certification,</li><li>Prior experience in food preparation, cooking, or canning operations,</li><li>Knowledge of food safety regulations,</li><li>Ability to operate and maintain canning equipment,</li><li>Strong attention to detail and cleanliness,</li><li>Physical ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 40 lbs,</li><li>CPR level C & First Aid,</li><li>Will have a valid class G drivers license and a vehicle, and</li><li>Provide a clear Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Peoples Sector Check applicable to the responsibilities of this position.<br /></li></ul><p><br /></p><p>Knowledge and Abilities:</p><ul><li>Knowledge and understanding of Anishnaabemowin, culture and traditions of Indigenous people of the Robinson Huron Treaty,</li><li>Familiar with community services networks and knowledge the Niigaaniin Services would be an asset,</li><li>All candidates must be able to work with a diverse population,</li><li>Knowledge of health and safety regarding food handling, packaging, and cross contamination etc,</li><li>Familiarity with canning methods including pressure canning and water bath techniques,</li><li>Knowledge of vegetable preparation, cooking times, and preservation principles,</li><li>Awareness of risks associated with improper canning (e.g., botulism) and how to prevent them,</li><li>Basic understanding of inventory management and batch tracking,</li><li>Able to withstand long hours of standing, bending, and moving around,</li><li>Basic knowledge of mathematics to make correct measurements of ingredients,</li><li>Ability to safely uses cooking tools; knifes, cookware, bakeware,</li><li>Superior oral and written communication skills, excellent time management skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment,</li><li>Must be Proficient in MS Office Applications, Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and internet,</li><li>Requires minimum supervision, able to work independently and maintains a supportive and cooperative environment with colleagues and the communities, and</li><li>Ability to work with internal and external partners; program managers.<br /></li></ul><p><br /></p><p>Application Deadline; Friday September 26, 2025 at noon.</p><p>Apply Online: <span >https://nstc.bamboohr.com/careers</span></p><p><br /></p><p>Sarah Tarini, Human Resource Manager H.B Comm, CHRP, CIHRP</p><p>Mamaweswen, The North Shore Tribal Council; Niigaaniin Services</p><p><br /></p><p>A full job description is available upon request,Please <span >emailhr@niigaaniin.com</span></p><p><br /></p><p>Mamaweswen, The North Shore Tribal Council would like to say Miigwech to all that apply.</p><p>Only those who qualify for an interview will be contacted.</p><p><br /></p><p>***Miigwech***<br /></p></p></p>
