As a faith- and values-based organization, we hire and serve people of all backgrounds and walks of life.</p><p><b>Mission Statement</b></p><p>The Salvation Army exists to share the love of Jesus Christ, meet human needs and be a transforming influence in the communities of our world.</p><h3>Job Description</h3><p><b>Position Purpose Summary</b></p><p><b>Accountabilities</b></p><p>The incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties.</p><ul><li>Oversee safety of all customers, staff, and volunteers while in the store</li><li>Assist with planning of store layouts and ensures attractiveness of store</li><li>Handle customer concerns or complaints in a timely and courteous manner</li><li>Support the Store manager/Corps Officer in ensuring all cash operations are carried out according to Salvation Army Policy and Procedures and nightly deposits are secure</li><li>Oversee control of inventory by ensuring store donations are retrieved, sorted, and priced appropriately</li><li>Provide direction and support to staff in the absence of Store Manager</li><li>Participate in interviews and hiring</li><li>Provide orientation and training, provides feedback for performance management of staff in compliance with Divisional and Territorial standards</li><li>Assist in planning of store sales, promotions, and auctions</li><li>Plan staff schedule, staff meetings, and training sessions</li><li>Sort, price, stock various goods</li></ul><p><b>Health and Safety</b></p><ul><li>Works in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.</li><li>Support Store Manager/Corps Officer in ensuring that all staff are aware of emergency procedures and are prepared to implement them immediately as necessary.</li><li>Ensures the proper procedures are followed in the event of a workplace injury or illness, conducting incident investigations as applicable.</li></ul><p>Performs other work-related duties as assigned.</p><h3>Relationship Management</h3><p><b>Critical Relationship Management</b></p><p>Internal: Store Manager, Corps Officer(s), volunteers, staff</p><p>External: Community, external vendors</p><h3>Managerial/Technical Responsibilities</h3><p><b>Managerial/Technical Responsibilities</b></p><p>Reports directly to the Store Manager.</p><p>Direct reports: None.</p><p>This position supervises staff members and volunteers in the absence of Store Manager/Corps Officer.</p><h3>Financial And Material Management</h3><p><b>Financial And Material Management</b></p><ul><li>Moderate material responsibilities.</li><li>Regular responsibility for minor financial matters and for wise use of own resources.</li><li>May be authorized to handle small amounts of cash. Little input to annual budget or revenue projections.</li></ul><p>The above responsibilities must be discharged in accordance with The Salvation Army’s Mission Statement, in a professional manner, upholding our code of conduct.</p><h3>Working Conditions</h3><ul><li>This is a permanent full-time position.</li><li>Working environment is in a store.</li><li>Flexibility in work schedule is required.</li><li>Work schedule will vary from week to week and will include weekdays and/or Saturdays.</li><li>Required to stand for long periods with frequent twisting, bending, crouching, and reaching is required.</li><li>Ability to lift/move on a regular basis up to 29 pounds.</li><li>Travel is required for this position to attend meetings, etc.</li></ul><p>The above responsibilities must be performed in keeping with The Salvation Army’s Mission, Vision and Values, in a professional manner, upholding our code of conduct.</p><h3>Education, Experience And Qualifications</h3><ul><li>Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.</li><li>Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.</li></ul><p>Alternative combination of education and Experience may be considered.</p><h3>Education, Qualifications And Certifications</h3><ul><li>Completion of a formal post-secondary program or specialized courses in Retail Management or equivalent.</li><li>Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.</li></ul><h3>Experience And Knowledge</h3><ul><li>Two (2) years of prior related retail store experience, specifically in secondhand merchandise preferred.</li><li>Basic accounting experience is required.</li><li>Cash handling experience is required.</li><li>Experience with cash registers and related processes and procedures, i.e., bank deposits, summary reports, etc.</li><li>Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.</li><li>Experience with specific systems/programs related to The Salvation Army is an asset.</li></ul><h3>Skills And Capabilities</h3><ul><li>Able to work within a team environment to provide direction, resolve conflict, ensure appropriate use of donations.</li><li>Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral).</li><li>Results driven with superior time management skills and the ability to delegate effectively.</li><li>Experience in performing administrative tasks.</li><li>Team player: ability to work in a compassionate, respectful, and non-judgmental manner.</li><li>Familiarity with cash handling, pricing, sorting procedures, product display and promotion guidelines.</li></ul><p>Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion.</p><p><b>Training to take place at Fenelon Falls Thrift Store (91 Murray Street, Fenelon Falls, ON K0M 1N0)</b></p><h3>Compensation</h3><p><b>The target hiring range for this position is $21.83 to $27.29 with a maximum of $32.75.</b></p><p>Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.</p><p>The Salvation Army will provide reasonable accommodation upon request.
