Position Summary
Thales Canada is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support its Non-Combatant In-Service Support Programs for the Royal Canadian Navy.
In the position of Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will work within the Thales LCMM & Engineering Team and is responsible for marine systems and mechanical technical support of various Royal Canadian Navy’s Non-Combatant Platforms. This includes but is not limited to marine propulsion systems, maneuvering systems, bilge, ballast, and other auxiliary systems.

This consists of planning, overseeing and executing engineering tasks within time and cost constraints to meet the Key Performance Indicators in accordance with Thales quality and commercial guidelines.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Manage the preparation and updating of marine system technical documentation including manufacturing drawings, design and materiel specifications, installation and maintenance instructions, and test and trials documentation.
Providing technical support of deficiencies of equipment or capability.
Conduct technical investigations into problems associated with marine equipment and/or system malfunction, including failure and root cause analysis, risk assessments, and solution development.
Analyze requirements associated with baseline changes to the ships configuration, equipment and software.
Performing Life Cycle and Materiel Management functions including but not limited to equipment obsolescence, material compatibility and disposal management.
Prepare documented work scopes suitable for solicitation of quotations from external resources such as OEM’s, manufacturers, suppliers, repair and testing facilities, or specialist service providers. Prepare technical proposals and cost estimates for Customer approval.
Implement and manage engineering changes and engineering work packages.

Development and review of Engineering plans, processes and procedures.
Conducting design calculations and reviews for piping, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, structures, and other equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor Degree in Marine or Mechanical Engineering.
Currently registered as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) in a Canadian Province, transferable to Ontario or Nova Scotia.
Minimum 10 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer in the marine industry.
Language: English (Essential).
Previous experience in Royal Canadian Navy or Canadian Coast Guard.
Experience in delivering marine in-service support of operational assets.
Demonstrated experience working with a defense contract.

Special Position Requirements
Schedule: 40 hours per week.
Physical Environment: Hybrid position – a mix of working from home and onsite (in office or on board DND ships at waterfront).
May be required to undertake inspections in machinery spaces of Naval ships involving bending and twisting.
Travel: Occasional domestic or international travel may be required in support of the ships.
The anticipated Total Target Compensation (TTC), inclusive of annual salary and bonus eligibility, for this role is 96,574.10 – 181,004.00 CAD Annual.
